Too much of Cricket
We are talking too much of cricket nowadays, so much that the other sports are very rarely remembered. It seems there is only one game that is played in India, and that is cricket, only cricket. The craze among the people seems to be matchless. You just ask anyone, anywhere about the score, promt comes the answer, and bet it will be very very precise and up to date.No matter where you are talking, in market, in a moving train, in a crowded place, in office, in lifts, even in loos...just ask 'score kya hai'...you will learn how knowledgeable Indians are when in comes to cricket. You know nothing if you do not know about cricket and the games that are being played now where you favourite team is playing. All your other know-hows will take a back seat here. No one cares if you know about the ongoing national football league, or even the Commonwealth games, or just concluded premier league hockey tournament. These are not worth, know more about cricket scores, cricket histories, familiarise yourself with the present tournaments, then you are 'updated'. There exists a prime group of people (or call them cricket pundits) who even specialises in Cricket know-hows, as them about world cup histories, scores, records, you will see so many human-google-search-engines exists who supply you with info in no time, ask them about how many sixes Dhoni hit against England, or how many times Sachin was back ducked in last world cup, you will be puzzled to know their memory limits. But ask him about how many golds India won in recent Commonwealth games, I bet they will be silent and speechless...some one may even tell you..'who keeps track of that when India-England series is on heat?' This situation of too much cricket and very little of other sports may not be a good indication for the sporting community of the country. A country, where there are other games being played since ages, even before cricket arrived here, needs equal support for all sports. Games like hockey, football, basketball, swimming etc. need to be focussed from all directions so that other sports are also encouraged. We have some duties here too, it is our responsibilities also to see and know a bit about other games, except cricket. We should not be so steroetypes that we only watch cricket, keep track of cricket only and lead our lives that flows with the wave, a wave called cricket.
